About this position

The International Doctoral Programme in Computational Neuroscience is an interdisciplinary PhD programme hosted by the Bernstein Center for Computational Neuroscience Berlin (BCCN Berlin) in Berlin. It is run in cooperation with Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Freie Universität Berlin, and Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, bringing together a broad scientific environment for doctoral research in the brain sciences.

The programme focuses on computational neuroscience as a field that connects theory, experiment, data analysis, and modelling to understand how the brain works. The advert emphasises collaboration across neurobiology, neuropsychology, cognitive science, medical research, computer science, mathematics, physics, and engineering. Students in the programme gain access to lectures for doctoral and Master's students as well as a wide range of transferable-skills courses.

The BCCN Berlin describes the doctoral programme as structured and research-oriented, with supervision through its faculty. Doctoral students in computational neuroscience can apply to be associated with the programme and benefit from the interdisciplinary research culture of the Berlin neuroscience community. The programme is designed to help students communicate across disciplines and contribute to research on neural disorders, biological processes, human-machine interaction, and learning.

The wider programme environment also includes career advisory support, soft-skill development, alumni events, and university career services, alongside support for international doctoral candidates.
