About this position
The UCLA CMRS Center for Early Global Studies is offering a John W. Baldwin Post-Doctoral Fellowship for a recent Ph.D. whose work focuses on European medieval studies in a global comparative context. The fellow will be part of the CMRS-CEGS community, a research environment that brings together scholars working across the many dimensions of early global studies.
The appointment is designed for a scholar whose work engages “Europe in the world” and uses innovative, cross-disciplinary methods. The fellow may work within a single discipline or across disciplines, as long as the research addresses the European Middle Ages at both micro and macro levels and situates Europe within a broader global frame. The fellowship is named for historian John W. Baldwin and is supported by a gift from Arcadia.
During the 24-month appointment, the fellow will pursue an independent research agenda while participating in academic events, collaborating with scholars, graduate students, and other postdoctoral fellows, and contributing to the Center’s programming, including public-facing activities. In the second year, the fellow will have the opportunity to organize one scholarly event such as a workshop or small symposium. The post is based in the CMRS Center for Early Global Studies at the University of California, Los Angeles.
The position also emphasizes engagement with underrepresented and underserved populations and epistemologies, and it invites applicants interested in building ties across fields within the university.
