About this position
Master's thesis opportunity in Toxicology at the University of Basel, within the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and the Molecular and Systems Toxicology (MolSysTox) Group / SCAHT - Swiss Centre for Applied Human Toxicology.
The project focuses on investigating substances that interfere with the function of placental 11β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 2 (11β-HSD2), with an emphasis on endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) such as bisphenols. The work is strongly experimental and includes in vitro assays, culture of human placental cell lines (JEG-3), cytotoxicity assays, radioactivity-based enzyme activity assays, gene expression analysis (RNA extraction, qPCR), protein analysis (Western blotting), data analysis, and experimental design.
Ideal applicants are motivated Master's students with a strong interest in environmental toxicology. A background in pharmaceutical sciences, toxicology, molecular biology, or a related area is preferred. Experience with cell culture is an advantage but not required. Good English, independence, and teamwork are expected. The post notes that MSc Drug Sciences students are eligible.
