About this position
Applications are invited for a fully funded PhD position within the MSCA Doctoral Network INNOVARTBRAIN, hosted by the University of Angers in France and embedded in CRCI2NA Team 5 – GLIAD (Design and Application of Innovative Locoregional Treatments in Glioblastoma). The project is part of a Europe-wide network coordinated by the University of Santiago de Compostela and focused on advancing innovative radiotherapy strategies for brain tumours.
The doctoral project investigates targeted alpha therapy (TAT) as an innovative locoregional treatment for glioblastoma, one of the most aggressive and treatment-resistant brain tumours. Working with a preclinical glioblastoma model, the candidate will study how the molecular target, delivery vector, and radionuclide affect therapeutic efficacy. The research will also examine how TAT damages tumour tissue and reshapes both local and systemic immune responses.
The project combines imaging, histology, and single-cell transcriptomics to build an integrated mechanistic understanding of TAT and identify determinants of response. This translational work is carried out in collaboration with partner institutions INEM (Institut Necker-Enfants Malades, Paris) and MUW (Medical University of Vienna, Austria), offering international secondments and interdisciplinary training.
The position is supervised by Dr Emmanuel Garcion, director of CRCI2NA Team 5, and the successful candidate will pursue the PhD at the University of Angers. The host team GLIAD focuses on glioblastoma and develops innovative locoregional therapeutic strategies targeting tumour biology, the tumour microenvironment, and treatment resistance, with the aim of anticipating recurrence and improving patient outcomes.
This MSCA-funded doctoral position includes a monthly living allowance of EUR 4,735.81 (France rate), a mobility allowance of EUR 710, and, where applicable, a family allowance of EUR 660 plus a special needs allowance. The funding is subject to the standard gross deductions under national law.
Eligibility requires a relevant Master’s degree or equivalent before the start date and compliance with the MSCA mobility rule (no more than 12 months of residence or main activity in France during the 36 months before recruitment). Strong motivation for interdisciplinary research, excellent English, and an interest in translational cancer research are important.
The application deadline is 31 October 2026. Applicants should submit a single PDF by email containing a CV, motivation letter, copy of the degree or proof of expected completion, and referee contacts. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to an online interview.

Experience with preclinical brain tumour models, neuro-oncology, molecular and cellular biology, immunology, radiopharmaceuticals, targeted radionuclide therapy, monoclonal antibodies, tumour-microenvironment interactions, in vivo work, imaging, histology, and transcriptomic/bioinformatics analysis is an advantage. Excellent oral and written English is required, along with good organisational and communication skills and the ability to work in an international, multidisciplinary environment. MSCA mobility rule applies: applicants must not have resided or carried out their main activity in France for more than 12 months in the 36 months immediately preceding recruitment.
