The Centre for Ice, Cryosphere, Carbon and Climate (iC3) at UiT The Arctic University of Norway invites researchers to apply for a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Postdoctoral Fellowship focused on Arctic glacier surges. iC3 is a leading interdisciplinary research hub in Arctic Norway, specializing in oceans, ice, cryosphere, carbon, and climate studies across the Arctic and Antarctic regions. The centre offers a vibrant, collaborative environment with over 25 PhD and postdoctoral researchers, state-of-the-art infrastructure, and a strong mentorship and training programme.

This opportunity is open to candidates of all nationalities with a strong background in glaciology, glacier dynamics, sediment genesis, or methane cycling from ice caps with surging outlet glaciers. The ongoing surge of Dyngjujökull glacier in Iceland is highlighted as a potential study site. Selected candidates will design their own research project and write an MSCA funding proposal for a 2–3 year postdoctoral fellowship at iC3. The centre provides comprehensive support during the proposal process, including training, templates, examples of successful proposals, and critical reviews. Over 42% of MSCA applicants with iC3 have been successful in recent years, far exceeding the European average.

Successful applicants will join a dynamic team, benefit from regular social events, and be fully integrated into one of iC3’s research groups. The centre is located in Tromsø, the capital of Arctic Norway, surrounded by sea and mountains and home to a large polar research community. iC3 collaborates with the Norwegian Polar Institute, NORCE, and other organizations focused on Arctic and Antarctic research.

Applicants must hold a PhD or equivalent in geosciences or a related field and have no more than 8 years of full-time academic research experience as of September 2026. Excellent English skills are required, and candidates must be willing to relocate to Norway if awarded the fellowship. MSCA provides a family allowance for grantees relocating with partners or children.
