The Centre for Ice, Cryosphere, Carbon and Climate (iC3) at UiT The Arctic University of Norway invites researchers to apply for a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Postdoctoral Fellowship in Arctic glaciology or paleoclimatology. Located in Tromsø, the capital of Arctic Norway, iC3 is an interdisciplinary hub for polar research, focusing on oceans, ice, cryosphere, carbon, and climate in both the Arctic and Antarctic regions.

This opportunity is open to candidates of all nationalities who wish to pursue a research project of their own design for 2–3 years at iC3. The fellowship is funded through Horizon Europe and offers a competitive salary, family allowance for those relocating with partners or children, and support for research costs. Applicants must secure funding by writing a successful MSCA proposal, with strong institutional support provided throughout the process, including training, templates, examples of past successful proposals, and critical reviews. Over 42% of MSCA applicants with iC3 have been successful in recent years, far exceeding the European average.

Research interests at iC3 include subglacial carbon stores, sedimentology, paleoclimatology, Eurasian ice sheet evolution, methane hydrate fluxes, and the application of machine learning to geosciences for reconstructing glacial histories and projecting future ice sheet behavior. Candidates are encouraged to design their own project within these areas and will be fully integrated into one of iC3’s research groups, joining a vibrant community of over 25 PhD and postdoc researchers. The centre offers outstanding research infrastructure, mentorship, training programmes, and regular social events, fostering a collaborative environment for cutting-edge polar science.

To be eligible, candidates must hold a PhD degree or equivalent by September 2026 and have no more than 8 years of full-time equivalent academic research experience. Excellent English language skills are required, and successful applicants must relocate to Norway to undertake their fellowship.
