The Centre for Ice, Cryosphere, Carbon and Climate (iC3) at UiT The Arctic University of Norway invites researchers to apply for a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Postdoctoral Fellowship focused on quantifying carbon storage beneath ice sheets. This interdisciplinary opportunity is based in Tromsø, Arctic Norway, and offers candidates the chance to design and lead their own research project for 2-3 years within a vibrant polar science community.

iC3 is a centre of excellence specializing in oceans, ice, cryosphere, carbon, and climate research across the Arctic and Antarctic. The research hub provides outstanding infrastructure, mentorship, training, and a collaborative environment with over 25 PhD and postdoc researchers. The successful candidate will join a team passionate about cutting-edge polar science and will be fully integrated into one of iC3’s research groups.

The project aims to map sedimentary basins beneath ice sheets, document organic material accumulation, assess hydrocarbon formation, and track subsurface changes over time. Expertise in geophysics is essential, with preferred backgrounds in seismology (ambient noise techniques and seismic tomography), potential field methods (gravity and magnetic data), or basin modelling (sedimentary processes and tectonic evolution). The research will contribute to climate models by integrating subsurface data with broader environmental analyses.

Applicants must hold a PhD or equivalent in geosciences or a related field by September 2026 and have no more than 8 years of full-time academic research experience. Excellent English skills are required. The fellowship is open to candidates of all nationalities, but recipients must relocate to Norway. MSCA provides a competitive salary, research costs, and a family allowance for those relocating with partners or children.
