About this position
Open PhD position in computational chemistry at the University of Zurich, in the Luber group at the Department of Chemistry.
The project sits at the interface of chemistry, biology, physics, and materials science, with a strong focus on method development and applications in machine learning-enhanced catalysis and spectroscopy. Possible research directions include ML-assisted enhanced sampling, vibrational and electronic spectroscopy, embedding approaches for complex and catalytic systems, and ML methods for complex liquids and interfaces. The exact topic will be defined together with the successful candidate based on interests and expertise.
The position offers a highly interdisciplinary environment with collaboration opportunities across the NCCR Catalysis network, access to world-leading supercomputers, and a brand-new research setting. Funding is available for summer schools and conferences.
Eligibility: applicants should have an excellent MSc degree in chemistry, interdisciplinary natural sciences, physics, or a related field. Strong English and autonomous learning ability are required. Programming skills and experience in electronic structure theory, ab initio molecular dynamics, catalysis, and machine learning are highly desirable.
Application: submit one PDF with cover letter, CV, diplomas, research experience and motivation, and at least two academic references. A one-page reflection on one or two group publications may also be included. Apply through the UZH job portal.
