The group of Dietrich Klakow is recruiting for one more PhD student and possibly a PostDoc in the emerging area of AI for Science. The research sits at the intersection of computer science, machine learning, deep learning, computational linguistics, bioinformatics, physics, and mathematics, with both fundamental and applied topics welcome.

The group highlights a strong tradition in language modelling and close collaboration with the Helmholtz Institute for Pharmaceutical Research and the University Hospital, providing access to unique data and a strong environment for interdisciplinary research. Saarland University is described as a leading location in Germany and Europe for computer science and medical/pharmaceutical research, with connections to major research institutes.

PhD funding: 75% of a full-time German E13 TV-L salary, approximately 3569 EUR per month before tax and social security contributions, for three years with a possible extension at 50% for a fourth year.

Postdoc funding: full-time German E13 TV-L salary, approximately 4967 EUR per month before tax and social security contributions, for two years with a possible extension.

Eligibility highlights: PhD applicants should have a Master's degree in a relevant field, excellent machine learning/deep learning knowledge, strong programming skills, and experience working independently and in a small team. Postdoc applicants should have a PhD in a relevant field with the same technical and teamwork strengths.
