About this position

Aalborg University in Copenhagen, Denmark, is inviting applications for four PhD and four postdoc positions in the area of Natural Language Processing (NLP), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Large Language Model (LLM) Security. These positions are hosted within the Natural Language Processing research group at the Department of Computer Science, Technical Faculty of IT and Design. The group, led by Professor Johannes Bjerva, is a rapidly expanding research environment with strong activities in multilingual NLP, LLM security, linguistically informed approaches to NLP, factuality in LLMs, and socially sustainable AI.

The research focus includes detection and mitigation of backdoors, data poisoning, adversarial inputs in LLMs, detection of LLM-generated text, linguistically motivated methods for analyzing and securing LLM behavior, analysis of vulnerabilities in low-resource language settings, and formal semantic or symbolic methods for monitoring and improving LLM robustness. The group is supported by several major national and international research grants, including the DFF: Sapere Aude and NNF: Ascending Data Science Investigator projects.

Applicants for the postdoc positions must hold a relevant PhD degree (e.g., NLP, AI, ML, Security, Cryptography, or related field) and demonstrate strong skills in machine learning, deep learning, and modern NLP methods, with a record of publishing in top-tier venues. Excellent communication skills in English are required, and experience in security, privacy, safety, or robustness is preferred. PhD applicants must have a relevant MSc degree (e.g., Computer Science, Software Engineering, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Computational Linguistics, or related field).

The positions are full-time and offer the possibility of international research stays. The research environment is highly collaborative, international, and ambitious, with access to state-of-the-art computational resources. The group values diversity, psychological safety, and inclusive research practices, providing a dynamic and welcoming environment for early-career researchers.

Applications must be submitted via Aalborg University's recruitment system, including a cover letter, CV, diplomas, project description, and other relevant documents. The deadline for PhD applications is 17 February 2026, and for postdoc applications is 3 March 2026. For more information, visit the provided links or contact the department directly.
