About this position
The Natural Language Processing (NLP) group at Aalborg University Copenhagen is offering four fully funded PhD positions and four postdoc positions in the area of Natural Language Processing, Artificial Intelligence, and Large Language Model (LLM) Security. The positions are based at the vibrant waterfront campus in Copenhagen, Denmark, and are part of a rapidly expanding research environment led by Professor Johannes Bjerva.
Research in these positions will focus on Security, Safety, and Privacy in AI, with a strong emphasis on NLP and LLMs across diverse cultural and linguistic settings. Key topics include NLP/LLM security, adversarial robustness, backdoor detection, memorization and privacy in LLMs, trustworthy multilingual language technologies, linguistically informed modeling, cross-cultural evaluation, interpretability, semantics, behavior analysis of LLMs, and low-resource language processing.
The group is supported by major research grants such as the DFF: Sapere Aude project and the NNF: Ascending Data Science Investigator project. The research environment is highly collaborative, international, and ambitious, offering access to state-of-the-art computational resources and opportunities for research stays abroad. The group values diversity, psychological safety, and inclusive research practices, fostering a supportive and dynamic atmosphere for early-career researchers.
Applicants for the PhD positions must hold a relevant MSc degree (or be enrolled in a relevant Master's program for integrated stipends) in fields such as Computer Science, Software Engineering, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, or Computational Linguistics. Strong skills in machine learning, deep learning, and modern NLP methods are required, with preference given to those with experience in NLP, LLM architectures, security, privacy, safety, or robustness. Postdoc applicants must have a relevant PhD degree and a strong publication record in top-tier venues.
PhD positions are fully funded for three years, with integrated stipends available for those not yet holding a Master's degree. Postdoc positions are funded for 1–3 years, with salary and terms according to the collective agreement. The application deadlines are 17 February 2026 for PhDs and 3 March 2026 for postdocs.
