About this position
This PhD position at the Trondheim Academy of Fine Art within the Faculty of Architecture and Design at NTNU focuses on Artistic Research – Digital Environments. The project explores how AI and other emerging technologies reshape knowledge production, creative practice, accountability, and broader social and ecological transformation through artistic and practice-based research.
The successful candidate will develop an independent research project that connects artistic inquiry with digital technologies, with possible emphases on investigative practices, sensing, analysis, modelling, visualisation, technology in the public interest, and the role of artistic research in emerging technologies. The work sits at the intersection of art, architecture, design, media, and technology, and is framed by KIT’s strategic interest in art’s contribution to societal change.
The PhD candidate will be embedded in a research environment that includes the Artistic Research Sensing and Visualisation Lab (ARSV-Lab), which develops resources and knowledge for multi-perspective sensing and data visualisation. The position is also linked to ongoing research initiatives, digital infrastructure, and externally funded projects, including the ERC project Sensing Ecocide and the COST Action Artistic Intelligence.
The candidate will participate in the Norwegian Artistic Research School (NARS) as part of the doctoral training environment and will contribute to the wider research culture of the department. NTNU describes the academy as open, experimental, and internationally connected, with opportunities for collaboration across technology, architecture, and the humanities.
