About this position
The University of Oslo is offering a doctoral research fellowship at the Centre for Precision Psychiatry, affiliated with the Institute of Clinical Medicine and conducted in collaboration with the Department of Medical Genetics at Oslo University Hospital.
The PhD project, Multimodal metabolic markers for mechanisms and predictive trajectories of Alzheimer’s disease, is part of the Back2Future project led by Professor Srdjan Djurovic. It will investigate whether early, heritable metabolic and protein biomarkers in blood can predict Alzheimer’s disease risk decades before symptoms emerge.
The research combines metabolomics, proteomics, genetics, brain MRI, cognition and health-registry data from large Norwegian and Nordic population cohorts. The fellow will work with extensive biomarker, clinical, cognitive, genotyping, sequencing and neuroimaging datasets, alongside data from international resources and consortia including the Psychiatric Genomics Consortium, ENIGMA, the European Alzheimer’s Disease DNA BioBank, UK Biobank, Estonian Biobank and ADNI.
The project involves integrating multi-omics and brain-imaging data to identify early Alzheimer’s disease biomarkers and contribute to a personalized prediction algorithm. The fellow will use large-scale analytical methods, computational tools and research infrastructure hosted by the Services for Sensitive Data. Activities include developing a PhD research plan, conducting literature searches, analysing and interpreting data, and preparing research articles for peer-reviewed journals.
The Centre for Precision Psychiatry provides a multidisciplinary research environment involving University of Oslo research groups, hospital departments and international collaborators. The fellow will work independently and as part of a team under the supervision of the group leader, while taking part in the Centre’s daily research activities.
