About this position

Linköping University is advertising a fully funded PhD position in Environmental Science focused on greenhouse gases, biodiversity, and sustainable agriculture. The project is part of the VERIFARM initiative, an interdisciplinary research effort on climate transition and biodiversity in agricultural landscapes, with collaboration across natural and social sciences, farmers, and the banking sector.

The research will examine CO2, CH4, and N2O emissions, biodiversity in agricultural landscapes, and habitat diversity using drones, sensors, remote sensing, and satellite measurements. The role includes field measurements, data analysis, scientific writing, conference presentations, and participation in research education. The position is based at Linköping University, Sweden, in the Environmental Change division.

Applicants should have a Master’s degree or equivalent preparation with at least 240 credits, including 60 advanced credits. Relevant backgrounds include environmental science, agriculture, geography, environmental engineering, physics, biology, engineering, or related fields. Strong English skills are required, and a Swedish class B driving license is necessary for fieldwork. Helpful experience includes GIS, remote sensing, drone operation, programming in Python or Matlab, statistics, modelling, sensor technology, and fieldwork.

The position is fully funded for 4 years full-time, with possible extension up to 5 years depending on teaching and departmental duties. Salary follows local progression rules, and teaching may account for up to 20% of the appointment.

Full funding including tuition fees and living expenses is available for this position. The scholarship covers all educational costs and provides a monthly stipend.
