About this position

PhD Position: Generative Modelling in Biomedical Imaging at the Faculty of Informatics, Masaryk University, Brno, Czechia.

This funded PhD project is hosted by the Centre for Biomedical Image Analysis (CBIA) and focuses on generative modelling, machine learning, deep learning, computer vision, data science, and biomedical imaging. The research aims to design and develop image synthesis methods from scarce CT/MRI data, including both 2D and 3D approaches, with a particular emphasis on synthesising rare brain tumour images that are difficult to diagnose.

The position is part of the Ph.D. in Informatics programme and is delivered in English or Czech. The preferred form is full-time. The project offers a standard funding package: tuition is free, with a doctoral scholarship, an employment contract, and a publication-performance scholarship that together can bring active students to around 32,000 CZK net per month.

Required background includes an MSc in computer science, applied mathematics, or image processing; strong machine learning/deep learning skills; Python programming; and a solid mathematical foundation. Experience in biomedical imaging is welcome but not required. Preferred extras include publication or open-source experience, plus C++, GPU, or HPC skills.

Application deadline: 2026-11-30. Apply via the Masaryk University e-application system. Contact the supervisor, Assoc Prof David Svoboda, at [email protected] for further information.
