About this position

PhD opportunity at the University of Cambridge in the Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute (CRUK CI): Innate-adaptive immune interactions in cancer evolution, supervised by Dr Tim Halim.

This fully funded PhD studentship focuses on cancer biology, immunology, cell biology, bioinformatics, and computational biology. The project asks how tissue-resident innate immune cells, including ILC2 and other innate immune populations, interact with adaptive immune cells during tumour evolution. The work spans pancreatic, breast, ovarian, and lung cancer models and aims to uncover mechanisms that could be targeted therapeutically to slow or halt tumour progression.

Students will use advanced experimental and analytical approaches, including high-parameter flow cytometry, multiplex imaging, single-cell and spatial transcriptomics, intravital imaging, proximity labelling, in vitro assays, in vivo models, and patient-derived material. The project is especially suitable for candidates interested in combining wet-lab immunology with robust in silico analysis.

Eligibility: applications are welcome from UK and overseas students. Applicants should hold or expect a First/Upper Second Class degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject from a recognised university worldwide. Prior research experience from a Master’s degree or laboratory work is strongly encouraged.

Interest in cancer biology, immunology, cell biology, bioinformatics, and computational biology is desired.
