About this position
PhD opportunity at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU), Suzhou, China
This funded PhD project focuses on ohmic contact formation on dry-etched GaN p-FET interfaces, with strong relevance to electrical engineering, materials science, and physics. The research investigates how plasma dry etching affects surface morphology, defect states, band bending, interface traps, and contact resistivity in GaN p-type field-effect transistors. The project also explores surface repair/post-etch treatments and carrier transport mechanisms to enable low-resistance p-type ohmic contacts for high-performance, low-power integrated circuits.
Supervision: Prof./Dr Wen Liu (principal supervisor), Prof./Dr Jie Zhang, Prof./Dr Ang Li, and Prof./Dr Ivona Mitrovic.
Funding: Three-year funded studentship covering tuition fees and offering up to RMB 16,500 for conference participation. The majority of research will be carried out at XJTLU in Suzhou, China, with possible short-term research visits to the University of Liverpool.
