About this position
Linköping University in Sweden is advertising PhD opportunities in organic bioelectronics / applied physics within the Laboratory of Organic Electronics (LOE). The project focuses on developing next-generation bioelectronic therapies for Parkinson’s disease and movement disorders using in situ formed electronic materials.
The research is highly interdisciplinary and spans organic bioelectronics, biomedical engineering, cell biology, electrochemistry, functional materials, neurobiology, and related areas. The vacancy describes two complementary PhD positions: one centered on transport, delivery, and operation of bioelectronic functionality in complex physiological environments, and another focused on biological cues that guide the formation of functional electronic materials in situ.
The positions are based at the Laboratory of Organic Electronics at Linköping University, with formal affiliation to the Organic Bioelectronics group led by Prof. Daniel Simon. The work is experimental and may include materials development, cell-based studies, advanced characterization, and device concepts. The environment is international, collaborative, and strongly connected to cutting-edge research on neural interfaces and minimally invasive bioelectronic therapies.
Eligibility: applicants should have a master’s degree in biomedical engineering, engineering biology, applied physics, biophysics, materials science, or a related field, or equivalent knowledge. Experience in organic electronics, electrochemistry, soft materials, microfabrication, microscopy, cell biology, neurobiology, or vascular biology is considered an advantage.
Funding: the position is fully funded and employed as a doctoral student position. The appointment is normally four years full-time, with possible extension up to five years depending on teaching and departmental duties. Salary follows local doctoral salary progression, and employment benefits include paid vacation, health-care coverage, parental leave, and pension accrual.
