About this position
PhD opportunity in Photonic Sensors for Light-Starved Applications at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), Netherlands.
This PhD project focuses on cutting-edge photonic sensors, nanophotonics, and near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) for ultra-low-light detection. The research aims to develop novel integrated photonic chips that can operate at femtowatt/low-picowatt light levels, enabling new sensing capabilities for applications in healthcare, fluorescence-based analysis, Raman scattering, and the energy transition.
You will work with advanced semiconductor device designs and fabrication methods, using the NanoLab@TU/e cleanroom facility and collaborating with other TU/e research groups on low-noise amplification and system integration. The project also includes exploration of real-world low-light sensing applications with industrial partners.
Eligibility highlights: a recent master’s degree (or equivalent) in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or Materials Science; the degree must have been obtained within the last two years. Applicants should be research-oriented, motivated for experimental work, able to work in an interdisciplinary team, interested in teaching and student coaching, and fluent in English at C1 level.
Funding and conditions: full-time employment for four years, with an intermediate assessment after nine months.
