About this position
PRIMA-CMR is a collaborative EuroTech Universities Alliance project between Eindhoven University of Technology and the Technical University of Munich, focused on making cardiac MRI safer by enabling much lower use of gadolinium-based contrast agents. The PhD project sits in the Medical Image Analysis group in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at TU/e and centers on trustworthy generative AI for dynamic cardiac MRI.
The successful candidate will develop new methods that recover diagnostic information from low-dose cardiac MRI while addressing the key challenge that current AI can produce realistic-looking images without guaranteeing that the output is clinically reliable. The project combines MR imaging physics, patient-specific clinical information, deep generative modeling, and uncertainty quantification to build models that can indicate when they are unsure. The methods will be validated on real clinical data together with clinical partners, with the broader aim of supporting safer imaging and more confident diagnosis.
The PhD is based at TU/e, with a planned six-month research stay at TUM in Munich in the group of Prof. Julia Schnabel, and the student will also interact with international clinical and academic partners across Europe. Supervision at TU/e is by Dr Cian Scannell, with co-supervision by Prof. Julia Schnabel.
The research environment is interdisciplinary and international, bringing together medical imaging, AI, and clinical collaboration within TU/e’s biomedical engineering setting.
