About this position
A fully funded PhD position is available at the University of Tours, France, in collaboration between the PCM2E laboratory (Physical Chemistry of Materials and Electrolytes for Energy) and the CEPR laboratory (Proteolytic enzymes and their pharmacological targeting in lung diseases). The project is at the interface of chemistry, biology, and material sciences, focusing on the design and synthesis of hydrophilic polymers for integration into antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs). The aim is to develop new hydrophilic polymeric structures that limit the hydrophobicity of ADCs, thereby optimizing their therapeutic index for cancer treatment.
The research will involve designing and synthesizing several families of hydrophilic polymers to act as hydrophobicity controllers in linker structures used for ADCs. The project is highly interdisciplinary, combining expertise in organic chemistry, polymer chemistry, heterocyclic chemistry, bioconjugation, and chemical biology. The recruited PhD student will work primarily in the PCM2E laboratory, focusing on the organic synthesis of hydrophobicity control units, which will then be conjugated to antibodies in the CEPR laboratory. The produced ADCs will be evaluated for their hydrophobicity and tested in vitro and in vivo in non-small cell lung cancer models. There is also an opportunity to participate in in vitro tests at the Department of Pharmacy of the University of Salerno, Italy.
Candidates must hold a Master 2 degree (BAC+5) in a relevant field, with strong skills in organic chemistry, experience in interdisciplinary research, and proficiency in purification and analytical techniques (especially HPLC). A good command of English is required, and knowledge of polymer chemistry is highly valued. The position is funded by Loire Val Health FRANCE 2030, offering a monthly gross salary of 2300 euros. The application deadline is October 1, 2026. Applications should include a CV, motivation letter, and academic transcripts, and be sent to both supervisors by email. French applicants may submit documents in French.
