PhD in Privacy-Preserving Robotic Inspection of Net-Zero Infrastructure (RAINZ CDT) University of Glasgow in United Kingdom

EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Robotics and AI for Net Zero (RAINZ CDT) is advertising a fully funded PhD project for September 2026 entry: PRINZ: Privacy-Preserving Robotic Inspection of Net-Zero Infrastructure.

The project is supervised by Prof Mohamed Khamis and Dr Euan McGookin at the University of Glasgow. The broader CDT spans Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, and net-zero applications, with research training across the University of Manchester, University of Glasgow, and University of Oxford depending on the project.

Research focus: privacy-preserving robotic inspection, AI-enabled robotics, and infrastructure relevant to net-zero systems. This is a strong fit for applicants interested in robotics, computer science, engineering, and applied AI for sustainability.

Funding: the studentship covers Home-rate tuition fees, a tax-free stipend at the UKRI minimum rate, and a research training/support grant for travel, conferences, secondments, consumables, and related activities. Additional support may be available for accessibility needs, equipment, and institutional visits. A limited number of international studentships may be available, with fee waivers considered case by case.

Eligibility highlights: applicants should have, or expect to achieve, at least a 2:1 (or international equivalent) in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or a related STEM subject. Programming experience is expected, and applicants must not already hold a PhD. Some projects may have extra nationality or residency requirements.
