The University of Geneva is offering a fully funded PhD position in Volcanic Risk Analysis, focusing on the socio-economic impacts of volcanic eruptions in the Southern Volcanic Zone (Chile & Argentina). The project, funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation, aims to develop dynamic econometric models to link eruption characteristics with country-level impacts, moving beyond traditional hazard-only approaches to capture cascading and systemic effects in an interconnected world. The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team led by Professors Costanza Bonadonna and Salvatore Di Falco, working at the interface of volcanology, systemic risk, and environmental economics. Collaborations include SERNAGEOMIN (Chile), SEGEMAR (Argentina), and the IFRC, providing a rich environment for research and professional development.

Applicants should hold or be near completion of a Master's degree in Economics, Geology, Environmental Sciences, Engineering, or a related field. Experience or interest in applied econometrics, systemic risk, modelling, network science, or volcanic processes is highly valued.
