About this position
The Center for the Transformation of Chemistry (CTC) in Leipzig is a newly founded national research hub in Germany focused on rethinking chemistry for global sustainability challenges. The PhD project sits in the Sofiadis group and is part of a collaborative, mission-driven research environment that brings together chemistry, physics, engineering, data science, and social sciences.
This doctorate will focus on the development of sustainable organic photocatalysts for facilitating organic reactions that support circularity in chemistry. The project addresses two main goals: designing new organic photocatalysts that can replace commonly used heavy-metal-based complexes, and exploring the reactivity of the newly developed catalysts.
During the PhD, the successful candidate will study the state of the art in modern photochemistry, develop experimental plans, carry out laboratory work, use modern analytical techniques, and analyse data. The role also includes preparing scientific reports, literature summaries, manuscripts, and presentations, as well as interacting with interdisciplinary teams at CTC, including groups in automation, data-driven chemistry, and polymer chemistry.
The position is embedded in a research hub that emphasizes open science, innovation, strong scientific and economic networks, and training for the next generation of scientists and entrepreneurs.
