About this position
La Salle - Universitat Ramon Llull in Barcelona is offering a PhD opportunity in acoustics within the newly funded CharPAL project. The research focuses on the experimental characterization and theoretical modelling of parametric acoustic loudspeakers (PAL).
The project combines advanced acoustic measurements, robotic scanning and sound-field reconstruction using Near-Field Acoustic Holography. The doctoral researcher will also develop equivalent-source representations, inverse methods and efficient predictive models for flat and curved PAL configurations.
A further component involves the design, additive manufacturing and experimental validation of novel parametric acoustic loudspeaker prototypes. The work will explore engineering applications in heritage acoustics and machine-learning-based material classification.
The researcher will join the Acoustics, Audio and Vibration Research Line and the CharPAL research team, supervised by Marc Arnela and Oriol Guasch. The research environment includes the IASLab Acoustics Laboratory, with a fully anechoic chamber, reverberation chamber, immersive audio facilities, professional recording studio, advanced measurement equipment and dedicated computational resources. The project also involves collaboration with researchers at La Salle-URL, the Federal University of Santa Maria in Brazil and KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden.
