About this position
Postdoctoral opportunity at the University of Barcelona within the ERC-CoG DEEP project in the Dynamic Optical Systems Lab.
This full-time postdoc focuses on developing innovative, non-invasive optical strategies to focus light deep inside biological tissues and other scattering media. The research combines ultrasound-based modulation of optical properties with light-based methods to create in-situ virtual endoscopes, embedded optical lenses, or waveguides that redirect light toward deep focal regions while maintaining micrometric spatial confinement.
The successful candidate will work on combining recent advances in acoustic holograms with optical techniques. Main tasks include optimizing acoustic holograms for photon tagging and light guiding, and applying these methods to laser surgery and deep light imaging. The postdoc is also expected to actively contribute to the group’s research activities, present findings at international conferences, prepare manuscripts and grant proposals, and supervise PhD and Master’s students.
Eligibility requires a PhD in physics, optics, acoustics, or engineering, together with experience in optics or acoustics, independent working ability, and strong English communication skills. Additional desirable experience includes designing optical systems from hardware to software implementation, including FPGA control, as well as handling biological samples.
The position is based at the Universitat de Barcelona in Barcelona, Spain, and is part of a European Research Council project funded through Horizon Europe. Salary is negotiable depending on the candidate’s expertise. The application window runs from 27 October to 9 November 2026, and the deadline is 2026-11-09.
