About this position
Forschungszentrum Jülich GmbH is offering a three-year PhD position in economics at the Institute of Climate and Energy Systems – Jülich Systems Analysis (ICE-2), based in Jülich, Germany.
The doctoral project investigates public opinion and sentiment on energy policy through systematic data collection and natural language processing (NLP). The research will identify and characterize stakeholder groups relevant to energy policy, draw on economic theory, and translate findings into specifications for an NLP-based analysis tool. Results will be processed using multi-criteria analysis and assessed in relation to ethics, transparency, and actionable recommendations for policymakers, businesses, and civil society.

The work is embedded in the Spatial Economics team, which studies the socioeconomic transformation of energy systems.
Applicants should hold an honors master's degree in economics and demonstrate interest in doctoral research, energy transition challenges, and their economic consequences. Strong analytical, creative, organizational, teamwork, and communication skills are expected. Fluent English at C1/C2 CEFR level is required.
