About this position
PhD Position at Delft University of Technology in Energy Data Sharing for City-Level Policy Making Using Digital Twins.
This doctoral project is part of the FEDERATE NWO project and focuses on how municipalities can use better energy data sharing to support city decarbonization and sustainability policy making. The research addresses fragmented and incomplete public data and investigates new data sharing architectures between citizens, local companies, and municipalities, aligned with the new Dutch Energy Law and municipal digital twins.
The project combines Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, and Mathematics with an emphasis on knowledge graphs, ontologies, data engineering, and integration with digital twins and other citizen/company data collection tools. The work is positioned in the section Intelligent Electrical Power Grids within the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science, and the team values mathematically rigorous methods, open science, and practical impact.
Supervision is by Dr. Milos Cvetkovic. The wider group is headed by Prof. Peter Palensky. The project also includes collaboration with industrial partners and academics from other disciplines, plus teaching-related duties such as student supervision and labs.
Eligibility: candidates should already hold an MSc in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field. Strong programming ability, excellent analytical skills, and prior experience with knowledge graphs, knowledge representation, data engineering, model-driven software engineering, or data space architectures are desired. Interest in socio-technical systems and multi-partner projects is especially relevant. English proficiency is required for PhD study at TU Delft.
Funding and terms: this is a four-year salaried PhD appointment with a salary of €3204–€4051 gross per month depending on year of appointment, plus holiday allowance and an end-of-year bonus.
