About this position
Oslo Metropolitan University (OsloMet) is advertising a PhD position in long-term climate governance within the Oslo Business School, based in the academic unit Public Administration and Governance. The position is linked to the ERC-funded research project CAMELOT – Capacities for More Effective Long-term Climate Governance, led by Associate Professor Manjana Milkoreit.
The PhD scholar will develop an independent, theoretically informed and empirically grounded research project that contributes to understanding and strengthening capacities for long-term governance. The project may address topics such as climate futures, narratives and stories about long-term climate change, foresight and scenarios, simulations and serious games, educational or professional interventions, Earth system risks and tipping points, or how long-term governance capacities translate into reasoning, decision-making, and action.
The research environment is interdisciplinary and international, bringing together perspectives from political science, public administration, environmental governance, sustainability science, futures studies, psychology, and related social science fields. The candidate will work closely with the CAMELOT team and may build on concepts, methods, interventions, or findings developed in the project, while conducting original empirical research of their own.
Eligibility requirements include a master's degree of 120 ECTS or equivalent in a relevant field, a grade of B or better on both the thesis and the overall degree, strong research-methods knowledge, strong academic writing, and excellent English. Applicants who are close to finishing their master's degree may apply if the degree will be completed before the start date. Admission to OsloMet's PhD programme in Social Sciences, specialization Business Administration, Innovation and Governance (BIG), is required.
The appointment is for three years full-time with a possibility of extension to four years if teaching duties are included. The salary is stated as 550,800 NOK per year, with pension contributions deducted. The position is expected to start in April 2027.
