About this position

PhD opportunity in computational neuroscience and human neurodevelopment at Forschungszentrum Jülich (INM-7)

The Multiscale Neurodevelopment team in the Institute of Neuroscience and Medicine – Brain and Behaviour (INM-7) is recruiting a PhD student fellow to work on multi-modal models of human brain development, function, and cognition. The project combines in vivo MRI, EEG, post mortem brain samples, and computational modelling to study the maturation of cortical architecture, connectivity, and functional dynamics across early life.

The research focus includes generating growth models of human neurodevelopment, applying unsupervised and supervised learning, predicting clinical phenotypes and cognitive maturation from brain development, developing MRI analysis toolboxes, and producing high-quality scientific articles in close collaboration with neuroscientists, computer scientists, and clinicians.

Applicants should hold an excellent Master’s degree in neuroscience or a related field, have strong programming skills in Python or Matlab, and show a strong interest in human neuroanatomy and cognitive neuroscience. Advanced English at C1 level is required, ideally supported by a certificate.

The position is based in Jülich, Germany, is fixed-term for 3 years, and is paid at TVöD-Bund pay grade 13 (65%) with additional benefits including a year-end bonus and capital-forming benefits. Applications are accepted until the position is filled.
