About this position
PhD Position in Translational Neuroscience and Precision Psychiatry at Forschungszentrum Jülich GmbH (Institute of Neuroscience and Medicine – Medical Imaging Physics, INM-4), Jülich, Germany.
The project sits in the Multimodal Imaging in Clinical Neuroscience department and focuses on how brain networks change in psychiatric disorders. The successful candidate will work with multimodal neuroimaging and computational neuroscience to identify imaging biomarkers that may support earlier diagnosis, predict disease trajectories, and improve treatment matching for individual patients.
Research topics include multimodal imaging integration across MRI, PET, EEG, and fNIRS; graph-theoretical network analysis; structural and functional connectivity; multivariate statistics; machine learning; and biomarker development. The role also involves working with the MINDset platform, which contains over 1,000 multimodal datasets from clinical studies, and contributing to replication studies and longitudinal analyses.
Tasks include integrating datasets, analyzing brain networks, applying statistical and machine-learning methods, coordinating longitudinal studies with psychiatric patients and healthy controls, supervising MRI data acquisition, and curating imaging data according to standards such as BIDS.
Eligibility highlights: a Master’s degree in neuroscience, biomedical engineering, medical physics, psychology, cognitive science, computer science, physics, data science, or a related field; strong interest in translational psychiatry and neuroimaging; programming experience in MATLAB and/or Python; experience with structural/functional MRI preferred; and English at B2 level or higher. German at B1 level is desirable.
Funding and conditions: fixed-term appointment for 3 years, salary at pay grade 13 (65%) TVöD-Bund, plus year-end bonus and capital-forming benefits. Flexible working may be possible after consultation. Application deadline: 2026-11-15.
Supervisors: Prof. Dr. Irene Neuner and Dr. Ravichandran Rajkumar.
