About this position
Aalborg University is offering a fully funded PhD position in the Department of Chemistry and Bioscience to study the non-canonical functions of antibodies, particularly in neurological and psychiatric conditions. The project is part of a collaborative consortium, partly funded by the Sino-Danish Center, and involves extended research stays at the Institute of Biophysics, Chinese Academy of Science, Beijing, China. The research aims to explore the potential enzymatic and other non-traditional activities of immunoglobulins, contributing to a deeper understanding of their roles in disease mechanisms.
The successful candidate will join a vibrant research environment with approximately 150 employees and 75 PhD students, focusing on interdisciplinary research in biology, chemistry, biotechnology, and related fields. The project will investigate hypotheses dating back to Linus Pauling regarding immunoglobulin enzymatic activities, with the goal of elucidating their significance in various diseases. The position offers the opportunity to obtain a double degree through the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences.
Applicants should have a strong background in biotechnology, molecular medicine, molecular biology, biochemistry, immunology, or closely related fields. Excellent English language skills and a willingness to work in an international, collaborative setting are essential. The position requires enrollment in the Doctoral School of Engineering and Science and includes coursework, teaching experience, and an external research stay.
The PhD stipend is for 3 years, with salary and employment terms governed by Danish regulations. The application deadline is February 24, 2026. For more information and to apply, visit the Aalborg University job portal. Contact Professor Peter Kristensen for academic inquiries.
