The University of Cologne, one of Europe's largest and oldest universities, is offering a PhD position in Nuclear Physics at its Institute for Nuclear Physics within the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. This opportunity is ideal for candidates passionate about experimental nuclear physics and the structure of atomic nuclei. The research group focuses on cutting-edge experiments involving atomic nuclei, utilizing both the local tandem accelerator facility and collaborating with national and international research infrastructures. The successful candidate will actively participate in the planning, preparation, and execution of nuclear physics experiments, contribute to the testing and development of novel detection systems, and analyze and interpret experimental data. Collaboration within international research teams and presentation of research results at scientific meetings and in publications are integral parts of the role.

The position is part-time (29.87 hours per week) and is available as soon as possible, with funding provided according to remuneration group 13 TV-L of the German public sector. Applicants must hold a Master’s degree or equivalent in physics and demonstrate a strong interest in experimental nuclear physics and nuclear structure research. Experience with detector technologies or experimental methods is advantageous. Candidates should be able to work independently and as part of an international team, possess good communication skills, and have proficiency in English. German language skills are beneficial but not mandatory.
