About this position
Central Michigan University is advertising a Postdoctoral Research Fellow position in experimental nuclear physics within the Department of Physics and the Nuclear Physics and Fundamental Symmetries group.
The research focuses on low-energy nuclear physics with applications to nuclear astrophysics, nuclear structure and reactions, and fundamental symmetries. The selected researcher will work on precision mass measurements at FRIB, including time-of-flight mass measurements with the S800 spectrometer and Penning trap measurements with the LEBIT facility. Local activities at CMU include development and characterization of radiation detectors and precision mass measurements with the CHIP-TRAP Penning trap.
The postdoctoral fellow is expected to take a leading role in planning and running experiments at FRIB and may contribute to instrumentation development for ion traps and beam tracking detectors. The role also offers the opportunity to supervise CMU graduate students and to develop independent experimental ideas at accelerator laboratories.
Eligibility highlights: Ph.D. in nuclear physics or a related field; experience with experimental nuclear physics techniques and data analysis; strong scientific writing and communication skills; and a strong interest in current nuclear physics and astrophysics research. Preferred experience includes ion beam optics, ion beam transport simulations, data acquisition systems, event-by-event analysis, radiation detectors, ion trapping, and preparing/running experiments at nuclear physics laboratories.
Location: Mount Pleasant, Michigan, United States.
Application: Apply online via the CMU jobs portal and upload a cover letter, CV, and 3 references. Questions may be directed to Dr. Alfredo Estrade or Dr. Matthew Redshaw.
