About this position
PhD opportunity in River Basin Hydrology at Delft University of Technology (TU Delft), focused on Climate Change and Hydrological Extremes. The project addresses more reliable hydrological predictions for the Rhine-Meuse river basin by quantifying natural vegetation adaptation to a changing climate, improving the wFlow-SBM hydrological model with time-variable vegetation parametrization, and analyzing impacts on soil moisture, groundwater, and streamflow.
The PhD will be carried out in close collaboration with Rijkswaterstaat (Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management) and Deltares. At TU Delft, the candidate will be hosted by the Water Management Department in the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences. The supervision team at TU Delft is led by Prof. Markus Hrachowitz.
Eligibility highlights: MSc degree in Hydrology, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field; excellent programming and GIS skills; strong written and spoken English; Dutch is an advantage; and a clear interest in interdisciplinary research connecting plant physiology, soil science, geology, and hydrology.
Funding: The post is advertised as a fully funded PhD position.
