The ideal candidate will have a Master's degree in mechanical engineering, physics, materials science, or equivalent, with at least distinction. A strong background in solid mechanics, fluid dynamics, and micromanufacturing is required, along with proficiency in Matlab/Python, CAD software, FEM analysis, and experimental validation. Excellent English communication skills (written and oral), creativity, problem-solving ability, independence, and teamwork are essential. Candidates must be willing to write a PhD fellowship proposal for national funding and demonstrate a proactive approach to research and actuator development.
The position offers a four-year doctoral scholarship, full-time employment, health insurance, access to university sports facilities, and comprehensive doctoral training at the Arenberg Doctoral School. The research environment is international and collaborative, with opportunities to participate in conferences, trainings, summer schools, and lecture series both within and outside KU Leuven. The starting date is September 2026, with some flexibility for the ideal candidate.
