About this position
Two PhD positions are available in the Tortosa group at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid in Synthetic Organic Chemistry and Homogeneous Catalysis. The projects focus on modern asymmetric synthesis, organoboron chemistry, photocatalysis, and sustainable catalytic methodologies for building molecular complexity.
PhD 1 centers on the development of novel asymmetric catalytic transformations using organoboron compounds. PhD 2 focuses on novel asymmetric methodologies for the synthesis of sp³-rich building blocks with potential bioisostere applications. The research themes connect strongly with organic synthesis, organometallic chemistry, catalytic methodology development, and medicinal-chemistry-oriented molecular design.
The positions are supervised by Prof. Mariola Tortosa, Dr. Jaime Martín, and Dr. Thomas Rigotti. Applicants should have a completed or near-completed MSc in Chemistry, preferably with a background in Organic Chemistry and/or Organometallic Chemistry. Experience with NMR spectroscopy, synthetic molecular chemistry, and reactions under inert atmosphere is highly desirable. Good English communication skills are required, and international experience is considered an advantage.
The application deadline is 2026-06-30. Applicants must submit a single PDF containing a motivation letter, CV, transcripts, a copy of the degree, and contact details of two referees. Applications should be sent electronically to [email protected]. For more information, the post also references the Tortosa group website.
