About this position
The AIMM Lab at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) is recruiting three PhD students, as well as postdoctoral scholars and master's students, to join cutting-edge research in multimodal AI systems for biology and medicine. The lab, led by Assistant Professor Charlotte Bunne, is affiliated with the EPFL AI Center and focuses on developing new vision-language and diffusion models, agent frameworks, and multimodal architectures to advance computational biology and biomedicine.
PhD candidates are encouraged to apply through the Doctoral Program in Computer and Communication Sciences (EDIC) or, for computational biology, the EDCB Doctoral School. Applicants should have a strong background in machine learning, computer science, computational biology, or biomedicine, and demonstrate motivation for research in AI-driven biomedical applications. Postdoctoral applicants should have a strong publication record in relevant conferences and journals and should contact the lab directly via email with their CV, publication list, references, and a cover letter.
Master's students interested in thesis or internship projects can apply for available projects in generative AI for therapy planning, large-scale biological imaging, vision-language models for biomedicine, and reasoning in biological foundation models. Undergraduate students may apply for short-term research visits through the Summer@EPFL program.
EPFL doctoral programs are typically fully funded, though specific stipend and tuition details are not provided. Application deadlines for the EDIC program are December 15 and April 15, and for the EDCB program are April 15 and November 1. For more information and to apply, visit the AIMM Lab openings page or the EPFL doctoral school websites.
