About this position
PhD opportunity in climate science, geodesy and superconducting gravimetry at the GFZ Helmholtz Centre for Geosciences in Potsdam, Germany.
The PhD researcher will join SnowShifts, an ERC Synergy Grant project investigating how snow regimes are changing in some of the world’s most extreme environments. The research will explore how superconducting gravimetry can measure changes in snow mass and improve understanding of climate-driven changes in the cryosphere.
Field and research contexts include the Zugspitze, Tibetan Plateau, Antarctica and the Arctic. The successful candidate will work within an international, interdisciplinary team alongside colleagues from Oslo, Vienna, Lausanne and Toulouse.
Applicants should have an academic background in geodesy, geophysics, geosciences, physics or a related discipline. Interest in data analysis, gravity measurements, measurement technology and cryosphere research is desirable. Women are particularly encouraged to apply.
The position is for three years, with a possible extension. The application deadline is 4 December 2026. Full details and application instructions are available through the linked GFZ announcement.
