About this position
PhD opportunity in health and mortality dynamics
The Centre d'Estudis Demogràfics offers a full-time predoctoral research position connected to the HEALTHDYNAMICS project, “Dynamics of Health and Survival: Leveraging Unique Population Registers to Address New Challenges and Old Debates.” The doctoral research will be undertaken within the Doctoral Program in Demography at the Autonomous University of Barcelona.
The project investigates how health and mortality evolve in Catalonia using underused population health and mortality registers. Its broader goal is to understand how increasing longevity can be accompanied by continued improvements in population health. The doctoral researcher will develop a thesis linked to the project's scientific objectives and contribute to research on contemporary health and disease dynamics in Spain and Europe.
The work will involve preparing, managing and analysing Catalan health and mortality records, complemented by sources such as health surveys and SHARE data. Using advanced statistical methods, the researcher will study individual health and mortality trajectories and examine inequalities by gender, educational level, territory, origin and nationality.
The researcher will join a collaborative demography research environment led by principal investigators Iñaki Permanyer and Aïda Solé-Auró. Activities include literature review, theoretical development, scientific publication, conference presentations, dissemination and participation in the team's scientific and coordination work.
The position is based in Bellaterra, Barcelona, Spain, at the Centre d'Estudis Demogràfics.
