About this position
PhD Stipend in Experimental Quantum Materials Physics at Aalborg University, Denmark.
This full-time, fixed-term PhD position is hosted by the Physics Group in the Department of Materials and Production. The project focuses on experimental physics, quantum materials, surface science, and the study of molecular complexes on crystalline surfaces. The research aims to understand how molecular complexes can be used to engineer quantum properties in materials, with relevance to future applications in electronics, sensing, and energy harvesting.
The successful candidate will work with electrospray deposition under ultra-high-vacuum conditions and investigate structural and electronic properties using low-temperature scanning tunnelling microscopy (STM) and scanning tunnelling spectroscopy (STS). The role includes planning and conducting experiments, documenting methods and results, analysing data, discussing findings within the collaboration, and communicating results through scientific channels.
Eligibility highlights: a master’s degree in physics, nanoscience, or a closely related field; strong experimental background in physics, surface science, or nanoscience; documented experience with STM/STS, UHV techniques, cryogenic systems, surface science, and electrospray deposition; strong English communication skills; ability to work independently and collaboratively in an international research environment.
PhD structure and funding: the stipend is for 3 years. The position is funded within an international collaboration supported by Independent Research Fund Denmark. The PhD programme requires 30 ECTS of courses, teaching or knowledge dissemination, and an external research stay outside Aalborg University, preferably 3–6 months at a foreign research institution.
Application deadline: 2026-11-04. Apply through Aalborg University’s recruitment system on the job advertisement page. Required documents include an application letter, CV, bachelor’s and master’s diplomas with grades, and other relevant documents.
