About this position

Postdoc opportunity in laboratory astrochemistry at Aarhus University, Denmark, in the Aarhus Laboratory Astrochemistry Group under the supervision of Prof. Liv Hornekær.

The project is part of ERC Synergy Grant IRAstro and the DNRF Center of Excellence InterCat (Center for Interstellar Catalysis). The research focuses on how molecules form, organize, react, and dissipate energy on interstellar dust grain analogue surfaces under low-temperature, low-pressure conditions relevant to dense interstellar clouds and star-forming regions.

Core methods include low-temperature scanning tunneling microscopy (STM), temperature programmed desorption (TPD), and single-molecule infrared spectroscopy / RAIRS. The postdoc will map catalytic pathways and reaction rates, support development and troubleshooting of UHV experimental setups, contribute to laboratory maintenance, analyze data, write scientific papers, supervise PhD, Master, and bachelor students, and assist with project administration.

Eligibility: a PhD in physics or a closely related field, with strong experience in experimental surface science, UHV techniques, surface catalysis/reactions, and atomic-scale characterization. Laboratory astrochemistry experience is preferred. Good collaboration skills and the ability to work independently are important.

Funding and duration: 2-year postdoctoral appointment. Salary and employment terms follow Danish university collective agreements; salary is listed at basic steps 4–8.

Deadline: applications must be submitted by 28 October 2026. The application must be in English and include a CV, degree certificate, publication list, future research plan, research activity information, teaching portfolio, and verified teaching experience if applicable.

How to apply: submit the application through Aarhus University’s recruitment system via the job advertisement page. For further information, contact [email protected].
