PhD Student Positions in Mathematics – Research Training Group 2965: From Geometry to Numbers Leibniz University Hannover in Germany

The DFG-funded Research Training Group 2965 – From Geometry to Numbers is a collaborative doctoral program between Leibniz University Hannover and Humboldt University Berlin, offering several PhD student positions in mathematics. The program focuses on advanced research in algebraic geometry, number theory, and related mathematical fields, aiming to bridge the gap between geometric concepts and numerical methods. Successful candidates will undertake independent research projects in agreement with their supervisor, with the goal of earning a doctoral degree within four years. The academic environment is highly interactive, with students expected to actively participate in the RTG’s academic program, including seminars, workshops, and collaborative activities.

Depending on the supervisor’s location, the primary workplace will be either in Berlin or Hannover, and regular travel between the two cities is required to foster collaboration. The positions are funded by the DFG, with a salary at 75% of the 13 TV-L scale, and are limited to four years. Applicants should hold a Master’s or Diploma degree in Mathematics or Theoretical Physics, with a strong background in algebra, geometry, or number theory, and demonstrate above-average academic performance.
