About this position
This postdoctoral position at CNRS and the ISTO (Institut des Sciences de la Terre d'Orléans) focuses on understanding and modeling reactive transport in the unsaturated zone at a scale representative of the Beauce aquifer.
The successful researcher will develop a hydrogeological model for the O-ZNS observatory, integrating available geoscientific information across multiple domains, including geology, geophysics, hydrogeology, and biogeochemistry. The project combines laboratory characterization of O-ZNS materials with site-wide petrophysical and hydrodynamic parameters to build a model aimed at capturing the coupled physicochemical processes that operate across different spatial and temporal scales.
The work is centered on the O-ZNS observatory at Villamblain in Centre Val de Loire, France, a unique monitoring installation with a 20 m deep, 4 m diameter well, multiple boreholes, and environmental sensors designed for geochemical, microbiological, and hydrogeological investigations. The observatory also supports the deployment of innovative sensors for high-resolution 3D measurements related to fluid flow and heat/mass transfer in the unsaturated zone.
The postdoctoral researcher will join the O-ZNS platform team and the GeoEnergies & Environment group at ISTO, working closely with O-ZNS project leadership and reactive transport modeling teams from BRGM. The role includes contributing to the development of interoperable datasets and digital-twin approaches for O-ZNS, while helping to select smart environmental monitoring tools for installation at the Villamblain well.
The project is strongly interdisciplinary and connects field observation, laboratory analysis, geochemical and mineralogical data interpretation, and multiphase reactive transport concepts within a collaborative research environment.
