About this position

University College Dublin's School of Earth Sciences is recruiting a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Level 1 or Level 2 for a temporary 30-month position in Ireland.

The researcher will contribute to TabPhish, a five-year project funded by a European Research Council Starting Grant. The project develops and applies innovative geochemical tracer methods to investigate human impacts on groundwater systems over decadal to centennial timescales, with particular emphasis on long-term changes in nitrogen sources and fate and water-table depth.

Responsibilities include developing and applying dissolved gas isotope analytical techniques, conducting laboratory experiments, collecting groundwater field samples, quantitatively interpreting geochemical data, establishing new analytical capabilities at UCD, designing research investigations, and collaborating with national and international partners. The role may also provide opportunities for laboratory research at collaborating institutions, particularly Heidelberg University in Germany.

The PD1 salary is €47,273–€53,925 per annum, while the PD2 salary is €55,399–€60,250 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience. PD1 is intended for early-stage researchers, while PD2 is aimed at researchers who have completed the PD1 stage. The application deadline is 12:00 noon Irish time on 15 January 2027.
