About this position
This postdoctoral opening at Politecnico di Milano is hosted by the Department of Chemistry, Materials and Chemical Engineering “Giulio Natta” and supports research in chemical plants and technologies. The project focuses on the development and validation of an innovative electrolysis system for low-cost e-fuels production, combining laboratory-scale experimentation with modelling work.
The successful researcher will work on technologies conceived and patented at Politecnico di Milano to produce green hydrogen and convert it into sustainable fuels. A key part of the project is the development of a high-temperature SOEC system for water electrolysis and co-production of hydrogen and oxygen, with an emphasis on low energy demand and process efficiency.
In parallel, the post-doc will build a first-principles, multiscale model to optimise electrolysis operation and its integration with chemical synthesis systems. Experimental data will be used to validate and tune the model, supporting industrial scale-up and techno-economic studies. The project also aims to generate deliverables that can underpin technology transfer and field deployment of the developed solutions.
The call highlights a research environment that combines process development, modelling, experimental validation, and scale-up. Advanced use of programming tools and process simulation software is mentioned as a positive asset, indicating a project that bridges laboratory work with computational and process-engineering analysis.
The position is a postdoctoral contract linked to the TEF-funded project and is centred at Politecnico di Milano.
