About this position
The Department of Anthropology at William & Mary is offering a 12-month, non-tenure-track post-doctoral fellowship centered on historical archaeology and the study of North American material culture from the 18th and 19th centuries. The fellow will work with archaeological collections and associated archival materials from Yorktown, including the 18th- and 19th-century village and Revolutionary War battlefields.
This position is closely tied to an active research program based on William & Mary’s archaeological collections from Yorktown. The successful candidate will assist in cataloging, analyzing, and reporting on archaeological remains and related archival records, contributing directly to the interpretation of historical material culture in a collaborative university setting.
The appointment is located within the Anthropology Department at a public university in Virginia and is framed as a research-intensive postdoctoral role with opportunities to deepen expertise in collection analysis, archival documentation, and scholarly reporting. The postdoctoral fellow will also engage with broader research and public-facing dimensions of the Yorktown collections project.
