About this position

Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) in Morocco is recruiting two Post-Doctoral Fellows for the Sustainable Materials Research Center (SusMaT-RC). The positions are part of a collaborative project with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) under the supervision of Professor Youssef Habibi.

The research topic is the development of multifunctional bio-sourced hydrogels for agricultural applications. The project aims to convert locally abundant biomass into high-added-value components and integrate them with fertilizers and/or bio-based additives using sustainable pathways. The successful candidates will join an interdisciplinary environment focused on applied research, innovation, and real-world impact for Morocco and the African continent.

UM6P describes itself as an internationally oriented, research-driven university with strong links to innovation, entrepreneurship, and transdisciplinary collaboration. SusMaT-RC is a multidisciplinary center working on advanced biobased products and materials, including their functionality, structure-property relationships across scales, and applications supporting a green and circular economy.

The role involves rigorous testing of material performance, collaboration with interdisciplinary teams, and short-term work assignments in the United States. This makes the position especially attractive for researchers interested in biomaterials, hydrogels, sustainable materials, and agricultural materials engineering.

Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Chemistry, Polymer Science, Materials Science and Engineering, or a related area. The post calls for hands-on expertise in hydrogel formulation, biopolymer processing, porous material development, and analytical/spectroscopic/microscopic characterization. Strong documentation, writing, supervision, independence, and English communication skills are emphasized, along with a demonstrated ability to contribute to funded research and proposal development.

To apply, candidates must submit a detailed CV, cover letter, synthetic overview of their background and research activities, research and teaching plans, entrepreneurial ideas if any, a one-page motivation statement, and the names and contact details of three referees. The application is submitted via the link provided in the posting.

Funding details

Full funding including tuition fees and living expenses is available for this position. The scholarship covers all educational costs and provides a monthly stipend.
