About this position

This post-doctoral fellow opportunity at the Sustainable Materials Research Center (SusMaT-RC), Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P), offers a unique chance to contribute to cutting-edge research in recycling plastic waste. The project, in collaboration with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), focuses on developing innovative recycling technologies for plastics using sustainable physical and chemical pathways. The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team under the supervision of Professor Youssef Habibi, working at the intersection of materials science, chemical engineering, and polymer chemistry.

Key responsibilities include hands-on polymer processing and recycling, synthesis and characterization of polymer materials, and the use of advanced analytical, spectroscopic, and microscopic techniques. The role also involves rigorous testing of designed systems, collaboration with interdisciplinary researchers, maintaining detailed experimental records, and contributing to technical reports, research papers, and conference presentations. The fellow will also assist in proposal writing and may supervise undergraduate, master's, and doctoral students. Short-term international travel may be required for work assignments.

Applicants should possess a Ph.D. in organic chemistry, polymer science, materials science and engineering, or a related field. Strong organizational skills, self-motivation, the ability to work independently and as part of a team, and excellent communication skills in English are essential. Experience in supervising students and a focus on quality outputs are highly valued.

UM6P, located in the Green City of Benguerir, Morocco, is a leading institution dedicated to advancing applied research and innovation for Morocco and the African continent. The SusMaT-RC is renowned for its multidisciplinary approach to developing advanced biobased products and materials, supporting the transition toward a green and circular economy.

To apply, candidates should submit a CV, two letters of recommendation, and a one-page statement outlining their suitability and motivation for the position. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis due to project urgency. For more information and to apply, visit the application link provided.
