About this position
Postdoctoral position at the Institute of Physical Chemistry, Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw, Poland, within the project Smart Engineering of Catalysts for Hydrofunctionalization Reactions: From Selectivity Control to a Predictive Model (FENG.02.02-IP.05-0063/25).
The project is led by Dr Dawid Lichosyt and focuses on hydrofunctionalization chemistry, especially hydrocyanation and hydroformylation of alkenes and alkynes. The research combines catalyst and ligand synthesis with catalytic screening, mechanistic studies, and data-driven analysis. A major aim is to build a library of more than 100 catalysts and evaluate their performance across more than 1000 substrate–catalyst–condition combinations, then use the resulting activity and selectivity data to develop predictive machine-learning models.
The appointed postdoc will prepare and characterize catalyst/ligand libraries, evaluate catalytic activity and selectivity, study reaction mechanisms, and curate and standardize experimental datasets. The work sits at the interface of homogeneous catalysis, organic synthesis, combinatorial chemistry, and artificial intelligence, with a strong industrial relevance for more selective and sustainable production of pharmaceuticals, polymers, and functional materials.
Funding is provided through the FIRST TEAM FENG program, with a gross salary of about 13,230 PLN per month. The appointment is full-time for 12 months with the possibility of extension. The position is in an interdisciplinary, international team at IPC PAS, and the successful candidate may also benefit from institute programs such as young scientists competitions and Erasmus+ participation.
Eligibility requires a PhD in chemistry or a closely related discipline, experience in organic synthesis and catalysis, strong motivation, independent problem-solving ability, teamwork skills, reliability, and good English. Applicants must also meet the FIRST TEAM FENG rule on years since PhD award. The application deadline is 3 December 2026 at 12:00 CET. Applications are submitted by email to [email protected] with the required subject line and documents.
